Events: The ‘expanded’ Epworth and District Show is back for August bank holiday

Things to do in Lincolshire…

Visitors to the 73rd annual Epworth and District Show will find a Main Show Ring, a Fun Ring, beer tent, horticultural tent, an indoor soft play area for under 5s and fairground rides.

Other attractions will include classic cars and tractors, show jumping, and a variety of farm animals as well as a children’s fancy dress competition, Fun Dog Show, a food court and a chance for some shopping.

The event takes place on August Bank Holiday Monday (August 26) on Epworth Show Field, and promises to be a fun-packed day of entertainment, competitions and a celebration our country’s heritage.

“The show has expanded for this year with two great show rings, and some fabulous acts to keep you entertained throughout the day,” says Maggie Antcliff, President of the Epworth and District Agricultural Show.

“We’ve put together a really full programme, and added some extras such as the indoor soft play area for the under 5s and a children’s fancy dress competition.

“Also, prepare to participate in our fabulous story by the Knights of the Crusade, as they transport you back to medieval times. There will be opportunities for the children, and adults if they wish, to become squires and village maidens, as they follow the story of Excalibur.”

Highlights include show jumping

The are two chances to catch the Knights of the Crusades show, where everyone can expect jousting, pageantry and the Great Sword of Excalibur.

Characters will be dressed in period costumes and armour, and will stage heroic fighting from a world of mythical England. Audiences will have to do more than just spectate though, as children are invited to become squires, village maidens, and a Lady of the Day will be chosen to become Maid Marion. Children can even try to pull the legendary Sword Excalibur from the stone.

A Rodeo Sheep will challenge the more energetic visitors to the show, as will the daring Last One Standing which consists of a huge inflatable on which teams of up to eight have to jump over the rotating arm as it tries to knock you over, getting higher and faster each time.

“Let’s hope for some great weather on show day,” adds Maggie. “The Epworth Show really is going from strength to strength with our fabulous committee of volunteers and sponsors. It’s so fabulous that we can keep this long-standing tradition going, and be a part of the national agricultural show calendar, something which we are very proud of.”

Tickets: Adults £7; concs £5; family £19; under 5s free. The show starts at 9am on Epworth Show Field. For further information visit
