Things to do in Lincolshire…

Walking into the Dinosaur Encounter is like stepping through a time portal, 251 million years into the past.

From Saturday, July 13 The Collection Museum in Lincoln will be giving visitors the chance to come face-to-face with dinosaurs in this amazing exhibition visiting from London’s Natural History Museum.

Among the exhibits is the Natural History Museum’s most sophisticated animatronic T Rex, the size of a young adult.

Staring up at the meat eater – as T Rex roars down on you, teeth bared, making eye contact, whole body moving… I defy anyone not to feel their spine tingle. It’s absolutely thrilling.

Next to it, a Triceratops has two little babies – also moving around animatronically, as most of the dinosaurs are.

The Dinosaur Encounter exhibition has been timed to coincide with the summer school holidays and will stay insitu until September 8.

This groundbreaking experience has been a year in the planning and has taken several weeks to set up at the museum.

James Sharples from The Collection said: “Ideally we want to wow people.

“We want people to come in here and feel like they are getting a really great experience from the space, whether families, adults or children.

“Also for people to feel they have gone back in time.”

There are also some astonishing casts from fossils… look out for the massive Tyrannosaurus Rex skull containing 48 teeth.

Lincolnshire’s own finds, including fossils and a Plesiosaur found in Lincoln, are incorporated, and there is even some myth-busting from popular culture such as some very interesting facts about the Velociraptor made famous by Jurassic Park.

While you are at the exhibition, also have a go at excavating from the sand pit.

A summer of events runs alongside Dinosaur Encounter including an exhibition trail, craft activities, fossil handling sessions, family fun days and talks.

Catch Dinosaur Encounter from Saturday, July 13 to Sunday, September 8. Tickets: adults £7.50, concs £6.50, children £5, family £20. For more information and to book visit
