Police ordered people to stay indoors after a man was seen with a machete, witnesses have claimed.

Officers told people to lock their doors after a man was allegedly spotted carrying the weapon close to Winchester Close in Skegness just after 8.30pm last night, Sunday, August 11.

A number of nearby residents warned others in the area on social media about the incident.

Others said armed police and sniffer dogs were seen in the area searching for evidence.

Police have revealed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of the possession of a weapon, but stopped short of confirming whether it was a machete.

A force spokesperson said: “We responded to a report of a suspected domestic incident at Winchester Close in Skegness at 8.33pm on August 11.

“A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, possession of a weapon, criminal damage and ABH.

“He remains in custody and is being questioned by officers.”

The incident comes just days after an unrelated incident in which a man allegedly hit a woman’s car with a machete in Boston while her children were inside.

It later transpired that the man arrested was the same person who was arrested on suspicion of the possession of a knife after an incident in the town just days before.

After the second incident, police revealed a man had been detained under the Mental Health Act.
