News: Drone video footage shows the extent of flooding in Wainfleet All Saints

Drone video footage shows the flood water covering tracts of land in Wainfleet All Saints after the river burst its banks.

The footage, captured by resident Christ Dower with a drone earlier today, Thursday, June 13, shows how homes in Matt Pitts Lane and Brewster Lane and nearby fields which have been swamped by the deluge.

The River Steeping, which runs through the village, burst its banks on Tuesday evening, June 12 – following 72 hours of heavy rainfall in Lincolnshire.

Residents and fire crews worked around the clock, filling sandbags and pumping water, but were unable to stop the floods.

Sue Simmons, Clerk of Wainfleet All Saints Town Council has praised firefighters and residents, she said “the community really came together”.

The Environment Agency issued a ‘flood warning’ for the area before the river burst its banks and said that immediate action was required by residents.

It was one of seven flood warnings in the county, where flooding was said to be expected. The agency also issued 11 flood alerts, which is where flooding is said to be possible.

It added in a statement: “Please avoid contact with flood water. Our staff are out in the area to check the flood defences, clear blockages, and assist the emergency services and council.

 

“We will be closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated as the situation changes.”
