A Friends-themed café is set to give shoppers a flavour of the hit US comedy series in the middle of a city centre clothing store.

The fun venue has opened in Primark in Manchester city centre and is designed to look exactly like Central Perk, the diner from the hit US comedy series.

Taking part of the ground floor of the store, the space features a cafe with a menu of coffee and cakes.

There are also light breakfast and lunch items – and a photo opportunity with the iconic orange velvet sofa, the Manchester Evening News reports.

As you’d expect, there’s a massive range of merchandise.

It’s a large space – around 50 covers – complete with striped awnings above the ‘windows’, neon coffee cup signs and furniture like that in the classic American show.

Friends-themed artwork adorns the walls, from prints of Marcel the monkey to a chicken carcass wearing a fez hat and sunglasses.

There are sandwich prints, chick and duck prints, a Holiday Armadillo print and even a sticker reading ‘My name is Regina Phalange’.

There are large rugs on the floor, black and gold patterned seats and orange velvet banquettes – plus faux-exposed brick walls and a marble counter top.

In less than five minutes, the Friends theme tune – I’ll Be There For You by The Rembrandts – was played twice.

The space isn’t as gimmicky as you might expect and the menu suggests Central Perk is taking things seriously.

There’s a range of coffees, starting from 99p for a filter coffee, up to £2.75 for a large mocha. There’s also iced coffees, teas and soft drinks.

Waffles, with toppings including double chocolate and banana and salted caramel, are already proving popular with the first vistors.

There’s a large selection of sandwiches – Joey Tribiani’s favourite – from New York-style pastrami to a BLT (priced between £2.95 and £3.75), and a mountain of baked goods.

Just outside the cafe on the shop floor, there’s a range of themed merchandise.

“It’s really good how they’ve done it, I’m surprised by it. It does look like how it did on the show.”
