News: Inquest told Lincolnshire man sustained ‘significant trauma’ after his BMW bike collided with stationary vehicle on M62

A 50-year-old dad-of-one from Lincolnshire died of his injuries after he crashed his BMW motorbike into a stationary Highways England vehicle on the M62 in West Yorkshire.

Self-employed builder Shay O’Connell died in the early hours of Wednesday, May 8, an inquest at Halifax Town Hall heard.

Emergency services were called to the exit slip road of the M62 eastbound carriageway at junction 24 just after 1am following the collision between Mr O’Connell’s bike and another vehicle.

Coroner’s officer Bernard Tate told assistant coroner Peter Merchant that Mr O’Connell was pronounced dead by paramedics at 1.36am.

 

Dr Kerry Ramsden revealed in a post mortem examination report that he suffered “significant trauma”. Toxicology results are awaited.

The inquest heard Mr O’Connell was originally from Slough but lived in Spalding.

Mr Tate said Mr O’Connell was identified from his fingerprints.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed for further evidence to be gathered.
