News: ‘It’s awful’ – shoppers tell of shock after serious incident in Lincoln city centre

Shoppers tell of their shock after two women were injured at a pedestrian crossing on a busy dual carriageway of Lincoln City Centre.

The incident happened near the B&M Store on Tritton Road and was reported to police at 3.18pm today, Sunday, August 11.

Police closed the road in both directions and the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance landed on the road about 250 yards from where the accident happened.

Lincolnshire Live arrived at the scene just as one of the victims was being taken into the helicopter on a stretcher.

One woman was airlifted to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.

Another was taken to a hospital by land ambulance.

 

One woman, who did not want to be named said:  “It was shocking, it was just an quiet Sunday afternoon. You don’t expect things like this to happen.”

A shopper said: “It sounds awful, there was definitely two people involved in the incident, I saw only one taken away by the air ambulance.

“The other was put in the road ambulance.

“It seems to have been two people at the pedestrian crossing from what I saw one was unconscious but I was not close enough and I couldn’t tell.

“To me they seemed middled aged.”

Another said: “I was just shopping nearby then I came over and heard the helicopter land the sound was absolutely tremendous and the wind it brought up was unbelievable.

“I hope they are OK it looks to be very serious though.

“It would be serious if the air ambulance got involved I suppose.”

Another said: “From what I heard it was horrible, they were apparently on the road , the first I heard of it was when the helicopter was overhead, it did make a big noise.
