A Lincoln man has told of his shock after he was selected to appear on a national TV dating show.
Ryan Morley thought it was a joke at first after receiving a message on Instagram asking if he had ever considered television.
After taking part in a Skype interview, he was invited down to an interview in front of a green screen and a camera at Bethnal Green in London.
And while he insists he never thought he would go into television, he has admitted he wouldn’t be averse to returning to the screen in future.
“I had never ever dreamt of going on TV – I didn’t go looking for it either,” he said.
“Channel 5 slid into my DMs. It was a casting agent who said: would you consider doing a show?”
The 24-year-old, who is the director of his own business, then got a call telling him he was one of eight men selected for a dating show on Channel 5 called Undercover Twins.
“They said they had 40,000 applications but it was only us who had got selected,” he said.
“Rather than people with big followings normally on Instagram, they wanted to boost people who didn’t have a big following.
“I didn’t believe it at first. It snowballed from there and within two weeks I was on it.”
The former Priory Academy LSST pupil flew out from Birmingham Airport to a luxury house in Scotland after being picked up in a chaperoned car from his house in the Bailgate.
But he admits being on camera did take a bit of getting used to.
“It was the most surreal experience,” he said.
“It took time adjusting to the cameras with production crews wearing mics.
“You could be the most confident bloke ever but being in front of a camera is completely different.”
The show’s plot works by eight men competing against each other to win the affections of a woman who takes them all out on a date.
What they don’t know is the woman is actually an identical twin.
One by one, the men are eliminated until the point where the women come clean and the show works to see if there can be a genuine love match.
Mr Morley has remained tight-lipped about the eight-episode series but did say it is easy to get wrapped up in the world of reality TV.
“It is completely surreal even in the world of reality,” he said.
“You start to forget about the outside world as you get so immersed in the game.
“You pick a roommate at night but it gets in your head and you don’t talk about real life.
“You start stressing about some situation that happened that day. You start thinking about tactics and: how can I stay in this longer?”
He admits his TV debut was strange for his family as well.
“It was bit surprising for my family,” he said.
“They are watching every episode and following it.”
Since finishing filming, Mr Morley has returned back to Lincoln but has revealed he has had offers for other TV shows.
“I would definitely do others providing it was the right type of platform. I wouldn’t do any old thing,” he said.
You can see how Ryan does on Channel 5 every weekday night this week at 10pm – if you missed the first few episodes, you can watch them here.
