A witness has told a murder trial how a man who died after an alleged stabbing collapsed after seeking refuge in a tanning studio.

Robert Bolewski told the jury at Lincoln Crown Court that he had earlier seen the man involved in a fight with two other men in a car park off Wormgate in the centre of Boston.

Przemyslaw Cierniak was allegedly stabbed in a Boston alleyway in a row over £1 by men who he had met at a cashpoint only minutes earlier, the court heard.

The 41-year-old was kicked, punched and stabbed in Wormgate in January this year, yards from Boston Stump, jurors were told.

The blade is said to have punctured his liver and lung before he staggered into a nearby tanning studio, telling staff he needed to hide because he had been attacked with a knife.

Mariusz Skiba, 32, of no fixed address, and Dariusz Kaczkowski, 33, of Woodville Road, Boston, each deny the murder of  Mr Cierniak on January 10 this year.

Mr Bolewski, giving evidence with the assistance of an interpreter, said: “He was asked if he needed any help but he said he didn’t. Later, he asked for help because he was getting weaker and weaker.

“He said he had been stabbed. He slumped over and he was on the ground. There was blood coming from his mouth. It was very dramatic.”

Mr Bolewski said that he was walking with his wife along Wormgate when they heard the sound of male voices shouting and stopped to look.

He told the jury: “The whole incident happened very quickly.

“We saw two males holding hands and turning round.

“They looked like wrestlers who were holding each other and trying to tip one another over.”

He said one of one of the men, referred to as ‘male one’ , went to the ground during the struggle and was then further attacked with a third man becoming involved.

The third man then passed something to man attacking ‘male one’ and kicked or tried to keep still the man on the ground, he said.

The police cordon on Wormgate.

He said: “This is what it looked like to me. Male three was kicking the male on the ground.

“He was kicking him two or three times. I wouldn’t say he was punching. It looked more as if he was chopping wood. He was hitting ‘male one’.”

Mr Bolewski said the man he described as “male one” ran off and went into the tanning studio and the other two men hid behind a car before themselves leaving the scene.

Under cross-examination, he said he did not see a fourth man in the car park.

The prosecution say that Dariusz Kaczkowski and Mariusz Skiba  attacked 41-year-old  Przemyslaw Cierniak in the car park and during the incident he was stabbed, leaving him with fatal injuries.

The jury has been told that Mr Cierniak reached the tanning studio where he collapsed and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. His lung and liver were punctured when he was allegedly stabbed and he suffered internal bleeding.

The trial continues.
