News: Man found dead in friend’s flat

A man was found dead in his friend’s flat after he relapsed into drugs after being released from prison.

Emergency services were called on January 31 this year as Robert Gaydon had been found unconscious in his friend’s house in Grantham, his death was confirmed when he was taken to hospital in Grantham.

An inquest into his death heard that he was from Grantham and had been released from prison on December 14, 2018, and had successfully come off drugs through a course.

However, by January 4 this year he admitted that he had fallen back into daily drug use.

On January 28 he started a methadone prescription, which is used as an alternative for Heroin use.

His medical cause of death was given as drug toxicity.

 

Coroner Paul Smith said at the hearing which was held on Tuesday, August 13: “On January 31 he had been lodging with a friend and not staying at his supervised accommodation.

“During the early evening it was noted that he was unconscious. It was suspected that he had taken drugs although that was not witnessed.

“An ambulance was called and took him to hospital where his death was confirmed.”

He concluded that his death was drug related.
