News: More concerns at Kisimul care home off A46 as two staff members are suspended over safeguarding investigation

Another Lincolnshire Highlights news story…

Two staff members at a Kisimul care home have been suspended over safeguarding concerns.

An investigation is under way at Tigh Coilean, a six-bedroom house on Thorpe Lane in South Hykeham that is run by the group.

The Kisimul Group offers care for young people with autism, learning disabilities and challenging behaviour across Lincolnshire. It was subject to another investigation which concluded in July this year that the group says is unconnected to the current inquiry.

In November 2018 three staff members were arrested at a Kisimul-run children’s home in Swinderby as part of Operation Hendon. In total, eight people were arrested as part of this operation.

That investigation has now been completed and no criminal proceedings have followed from it.

The children’s home was rated as ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted in its latest inspection.

Police have confirmed that they are aware of the recent suspensions at Tigh Coilean but are not currently investigating any offences at the moment.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We are aware of concerns raised relating to Tigh Coilean, in South Hykeham.

“We are in contact with the local safeguarding team.

“Currently we are not investigating any possible offences.”

The Kisimul Group now has responsibility for any further internal investigations which will be overseen by the local authority and its partners.

Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed that its safeguarding team are ‘aware’ of the concerns raised.

Linda MacDonnell, Head of Adult Safeguarding at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We can confirm that the Adult Safeguarding Team are aware of the concerns raised and are working alongside Tigh Coilean in South Hykeham to make safeguarding enquiries related to this matter.

“We can’t provide further comment on individual cases but are satisfied that action has been taken by the provider to protect residents whilst enquiries are ongoing.

“Lincolnshire County Council work with a number of agencies, including the Care Quality Commission, to monitor the quality of care provision in Lincolnshire to make sure vulnerable people are safe and well cared for.”

A spokesperson for the Care Quality Commission said: “CQC is aware of an incident at Tigh Coilean in Lincoln and that action has been taken by the provider to protect residents.

“A safeguarding investigation is ongoing and we await the outcome of this. We are liaising with the local authority safeguarding team.”
