News: ‘My friends were going to move back to Spain, then their home flooded’

Another Lincolnshire Highlights news story…

A couple who had been planning to sell up and return to Spain are now facing an uncertain future after their home was swamped in the Wainfleet floods.

David Bramley, who is friends with the couple, was out in Wainfleet today trying to find a caravan for them to move into after 4ft of water gushed into their home.

David told Lincolnshire Live:  “There’s a Spanish couple who have their house up for sale and it’s a big house.

“They’re flooded with four foot of water and were supposed to be going back to Spain.

“They had a buyer interested in buying their property last week but now they’ve got this.

“They’re never going to sell it.”

Mr Bramley, 68, who lives in Wainfleet himself, said he lives on a hill and his home has not been damaged by floods, but even he has faced disruption and uncertainty as a result of the deluge.

He added: “We’ve only been here about two years something like that, we expected it when we lived in Chapel St Leonards but not here.

“I came home from work on Saturday night and was told that I wasn’t allowed back into my house.

“Someone said that everyone had been evacuated and that I couldn’t get to my house.

“I said: ‘No they haven’t, my partner is at home cooking my tea.’ And after arguing with her she let me go on my way.

“I think that people knew about the evacuation, but didn’t get enough warning.

“It was too late when the majority of people found out.”
