News: Names revealed of tragic couple killed after crash on A17

An inquest has been opened into the deaths of a husband and wife who tragically lost their lives after a crash on the A17.

John Whittaker Coy, 80, and partner, Elsie Coy, 79, died after their silver Vauxhall Zafira was involved in a collision with a Mercedes loader crane lorry close to the Leadenham bypass on Friday, May 24.

Police, paramedics, firefighters and the air ambulance were all sent to the scene, but the couple, from South Kyme, died at the scene.

The HGV driver, who is in his fifties, was seriously injured as a result of the incident and taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

 

At an inquest opening held today, Friday, June 14, into the couple’s deaths revealed their bodies were identified by coroner’s officer, David Stocking.

Coroner Timmothy Brennand also read out the couple’s address, date of birth, date of death and location of where they died in a hearing held at Lincolnshire Coroner’s Court.

The cause of death of death for both Mr and Mrs Coy was given as multiple injuries.

A full inquest hearing, which will look to establish how the couple died without apportioning blame, is now scheduled to take place on November 20 later this year.
