A pregnant mum-of-two claims her bed broke when it rotted because of damp and mould in her flat.

Mum Charley Lucas, from Keresley, Coventry, says conditions are so bad she has had to throw away some of her belongings and it has ruined some of her children’s clothes.

She claims Whitefriars Housing Group , which owns the property, claims repairs have been completed but the despairing mum says she is still scrubbing walls with bleach.

Whitefriars responded to the claims and said they have tried to complete work but were met with verbal abuse when they have visited the property, CoventryLive reports.

Charley said: “I am feeling really frustrated and I’m at breaking point.

“It was about June 2017 I noticed small bits of damp and mould but thought that happens with every property.

“A couple of weeks later my bed collapsed, and that was when I realised something wasn’t right. I contacted them and they did repairs about a year and a half ago and re-plastered bedroom walls.

“It is on my kids’ clothes, they are constantly ill, and I’m seven months pregnant – we shouldn’t live like this.

“I can’t move as I have nowhere else to go and they have told me they are not willing to move me as they think it is still habitable.

“Even though they say they have done work it just doesn’t seem to have worked. I just don’t know what to do anymore.”

A spokesperson for Whitefriars Housing Group said: “We have agreed to complete work to alleviate the issues in Ms Lucas’s home.

“These are not severe and are not significant enough to move her out of her home while the work is completed.

“On a visit to Ms Lucas’s home earlier this month to establish how to approach this work members of our team were forced to leave after being subjected to extreme verbal abuse by Ms Lucas and her partner.

“We are continuing to work with Ms Lucas to address the issues in her home.”

Charley disputes the claims of verbal abuse. She said: “While I agree there was confrontation between them and my partner I showed no aggression whatsoever.”
