News: These are the X-rated number plates put on sale by DVLA

Another Lincolnshire Highlights news story…

The DVLA is advertising a list of new X-rated number plates British drivers can snap up this autumn when new ’69’ registration vehicles hit the roads.

Normally the demure DVLA bans any plates that seem to refer to a private body part along with swear words and naughty phrases that could cause offence.

But the new ’69’ plate for new vehicles registered between September this year and February 2020 appear to have slipped past the DVLA’s strict taste filters and the results are surprising.

The DVLA is yet to release the latest list of prohibited plates for ’69’ registrations, despite a number of legitimate combinations already going on sale on their website, reports WalesOnline.

Some of the rude number plates which are on sale for up to £499 include:

  • BJ69 HED
  •

  • ME69 LOL
  •

  • ME69 GAG
  •

  • ME69 PSE
  •

  • LV 69 JZZ
  •

  • BG 69 WLY
  •

  • SX 69 DNG
  •

To decide which upcoming plates should be weeded out the DVLA hosts specialised meetings twice a year.

This is performed by actual people rather than specialised machines, in order to prevent any slipping through the net.

On the new prohibited list which was released in February, a DVLA spokesperson said: “The vast majority of registration numbers are made available but the Agency holds back any combinations that may cause offence, embarrassment or are in poor taste.

“Many people enjoy displaying a personalised registration number and there are over 50 million registrations available on our website, with almost endless possibilities of combinations to suit a person’s taste, interests and budget.”

Regarding some of the ’69’ plates available for sale, a DVLA spokesman said: “The vast majority of registration numbers are made available for general issue and for sale, and the numbers in question were deemed suitable for release.”
