Football pundit Chris Kamara has responded after fans said that an e-fit issued by the police looked like him.
He gave the tongue-in-cheek response after Humberside Police released an image earlier this week of a man who officers wish to trace in connection with an attack on a Cleethorpes woman.
The man was said to be wearing a white safety helmet and a hi-viz vest when he barged past the woman at her doorway on Trinity Road after making a sinister threat.
He was described as either eastern European or Turkish, in his 30s or 40s with a moustache. He was around 5ft 8in tall and had “very dark eyes”.
Scores of responses to the image were posted on social media after it was released on Tuesday , with many saying it looked like the former Leeds United, Sheffield United and Bradford City player, now best-known for his regular appearances on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday programme.
Today, Kamara has reacted by posting an image of himself wearing a hard hat and other DIY gear on his Twitter page, reassuring fans not to be alarmed if they see him.
He wrote: “Please don’t be alarmed if you see me out and about this afternoon. I am working.”
A further post by the pundit in response to a fan asking for his whereabouts at around 10pm on Thursday, June 13, when the incident happened, saw him reply: “I don’t know Jeff.”
In a new post on the Cleethorpes Community Policing Team page on Facebook, Humberside Police sad: “The likeness might be ‘Unbelievable Jeff’ but we’re happy to confirm that we’ve ruled @chris_kammy out of our investigation into an attempted burglary at a house in Trinity Road, Cleethorpes.
“If you can help us find the person responsible, call us on 101 re log 641 of June 13.”
