News: Woman, 21, designs cigarette brand to help smokers quit for good

Another Lincolnshire Highlights news story…

A woman who has lost relatives to smoking-related conditions has come up with a new hard-hitting brand of cigarettes to get smokers to re-think how they look at death.

Izzie Rodgers, 21, a University of Lincoln creative advertising student, wants to offer people the chance to have photos of friends and family printed onto cigarettes and given to someone they want to quit.

She said that existing health warnings on packets of smokes do not remind people of what they want to live for.

Her cigarettes could carry photos of newborn babies, family gatherings and graduations.

Izzie said: “This is an issue very close to my heart.   Both my nan and granddad on my dad’s side were smokers who died from lung conditions at about the age of 40 and I never got to meet them.

“Every death I have come into contact with since I was born was due to lung cancer.

“My nan has an ongoing condition where she cannot walk and struggles to breathe.

“I’m trying to make a difference in the world by getting people to re-evaluate the way they look at death caused by smoking cigarettes.

“Smoking cigarettes shortens lives. Cigarette packets are plastered with messages telling people that smoking kills and illustrates gory pictures of a stranger’s tar filled lungs.

“However, it doesn’t show what people really fear about death, which is what they will miss.”

She added: “I am working on creating a new anti-cigarette brand that is designed to remind smokers of the moments they want to live for.

“If I can get enough support on this idea, my goal is to launch an online purchasing system that will allow family and friends of smokers to upload 20 heart-wrenching photos they wish to be wrapped onto their cigarettes.

“The personalised box will then be delivered to the door of their nearest and dearest smokers, in photo album-inspired packaging.
