Sports: Lincoln City duo attracting interest from Championship clubs

More exciting sports news from around Lincolnshire…

Lincoln City pair Bruno Andrade and Ellis Chapman are attracting interest from higher-league clubs.

Lincolnshire Live understands Aston Villa and Portsmouth are keen on Andrade, who was one of the Imps’ standout players in their championship-winning season.

Villa could be a Premier League club next season and currently lead West Brom 2-1 ahead of the Championship play-off semi-final second leg tonight.

The winners will meet Leeds United or Derby County in the final.

Portsmouth are embroiled in the League One play-offs and currently trail Sunderland 1-0 on aggregate ahead of their semi-final second leg on Thursday.

Andrade, who joined the Imps last summer from National League Boreham Wood, has a year remaining on his current contract.

Meanwhile, homegrown midfielder Chapman is also set to be a player in demand this summer.

The 18-year-old is believed to be on the radar of Frank Lampard’s Derby, Premier League Southampton and Championship side Wigan Athletic.

Like Andrade, Chapman’s current contract is due to expire next summer.

Chapman was a regular in the Imps’ first-team squad during the first half of the season, but fell down the midfield pecking order following the arrival of Mark O’Hara on loan from Peterborough in January.

Chapman went out on loan to Chesterfield to secure regular first-team football and helped the Spireites pull clear of the National League relegation zone.

Imps boss Danny Cowley would be reluctant to let either man go, but every player has his price and it is understood any money made from transfers would be reinvested in the squad ahead of next season’s League One campaign.

That has been in the case in recent seasons, with the Imps selling Sean Raggett to Norwich City in 2017, Alex Woodyard to Peterborough last summer and Matt Green to Salford City in December.

The sale of Woodyard, for example, created the finance which enabled the club to sign this season’s leading scorer John Akinde.
