The sight of the pitch as you walk up the stadium steps and hear the crowd for the first time is a memory that lives with every young child at their first football match.

And for one Lincoln City mad 10-year-old that dream has become a reality.

Fernando Bull Bermejo lives in Spain with dad, Adam and mum, Maria, but that hasn’t stopped him following in his father’s footsteps and supporting the Imps.

And this Saturday, August 17, he was in the Sincil Bank crowd for the very first time when Danny Cowley’s side beat Southend United 4-0.

“Fernando was just getting into playing football and we were able to watch some of the FA Cup highlights in Spain,” said dad, Adam, who has been a City fan for 40 years.

Speaking to Lincolnshire Live before the game, Adam said: “His favourite player is John Akinde as he loves the way he takes penalties. He tries to copy it when he plays but it doesn’t always work for him.

“He’s really looking forward to the whole experience, hearing the crowd and singing some of the Lincoln songs for the first time in a stadium.”

Despite some gentle teasing, Fernando has resisted supporting the big Spanish teams like his friends at school.

“He is following in his father’s footsteps and I guess a big attachment to England,” said his dad, who used to live in Lincoln but moved to Spain years ago after meeting his wife.

“I used to sing him Lincoln songs as a lullaby so I guess I sowed the seeds early.

“His friends are all Real Madrid and Barcelona fans.”

And his dad admitted it would be a special moment when the pair go to Sincil Bank together with Fernando’s granddad and Adam’s dad, Alan.

“I always remember when I was little, my dad taking me to my first game.

“As a father I will be really proud to have him at my side and it will be really special as not am I going with him, but my dad as well.

“Three generations of us are going.”
