The case for Nigel Adkins
Football writer and Lincoln City supporter Alan Johnson explains why he would choose Nigel Adkins as Danny Cowley’s successor.
Over the last year or so I have often found myself contemplating who would be my choice to replace Danny Cowley at the Imps helm should the unthinkable happen.
My thoughts normally led me to Nigel Adkins, and now that the time is actually upon us, my feelings are no different.
Adkins famously led Scunthorpe United from League One to the Championship against the odds twice in three seasons, having been promoted himself from the role of physio to manager in 2006.
In doing so he guided the Iron to an impressive 91 and 76 points in those two seasons in the third tier, the first of which proved enough to go up as champions. All that with an unfancied, unfashionable club with half the fanbase size that City now has.
