Danny Cowley is planning to name a much-changed side for Lincoln City’s Carabao Cup tie at Huddersfield on Tuesday.

With such a small squad and with Saturday’s League One game against Southend United in mind, Cowley will rest some of his key players.

Here are seven players who could come into the team.

Grant Smith

Given Josh Vickers recent injury issues, it makes sense to rest the Imps’ number one for this game.

It’s also a good opportunity for Smith to prove himself after ending last season as the club’s third-choice keeper, behind Matt Gilks and Vickers.

By all accounts, the former Boreham Wood stopper has been working particularly hard on his game over the summer. He deserves some game time.

Aaron Lewis

The former Swansea City full-back, whose move to the club was confirmed on Saturday, has been signed with this sort of game in mind.

He’s currently playing for free as he puts himself in the shop window after leaving the Swans in the summer.

But good performances in the cup competitions could lead to something more permanent, provided finances allow.

Alex Bradley

The former West Brom youngster is seen as “one for the future” by Cowley and will probably go out on loan at some point this season.

But given the injury problems in midfield, he’ll be staying put for now.

After impressing so much in pre-season, this game represents a great chance to show what he can do.

Ellis Chapman

The homegrown midfielder looked poised to start the season in the side until Danny Cowley decided to go for the experience of Michael O’Connor instead.

The 18-year-old will almost certainly start at Huddersfield.

Bruno Andrade

The winger – a key man for the Imps last season – has been overlooked for the first two league games so will be desperate to make an impact against the Terriers.

Jordan Adebayo-Smith

The young striker’s form was one of the highlights of pre-season.

Ideally, Danny Cowley would like to send the 18-year-old out on loan to gain regular first-team experience.

But the lack of depth in the squad, plus his exciting potential, means those plans are on hold for now.

Therefore, he is likely to play against Huddersfield. His lightning pace could cause the Terriers problems.

John Akinde

Last season’s top scorer has been replaced in the starting line-up by loan signing Tyler Walker. Like Andrade, he will be looking to play his way back into Cowley’s plans for the league games.

Possible team: Smith; Lewis, Bolger, Bostwick, Toffolo; Morrell, Chapman, Bradley; Adebayo-Smith, Akinde, Andrade.
