Sports: ‘What an incredible era they have taken the club through’ – fans react after Danny Cowley’s move to Huddersfield is confirmed

More exciting sports news from around Lincolnshire…

Lincoln City fans have reacted to Danny Cowley being announced as the new manager of Huddersfield Town this afternoon.

It can’t be underestimated what the Cowley brothers did for not just the club, but the city as a whole.

The Essex brothers may be making the trip to West Yorkshire but they’ll always be honorary Yellowbellies to us.

There has been a wave of tributes to the outgoing Cowley brothers, with supporters taking to social media to thank the now former Imps bosses.

Bill Pilgrim said: “Gutted. It’s a really sad day.

“I really thought Danny & Nicky would see the season out with us.

“I don’t think they’ve made the right choice in Huddersfield, a side in free fall, and unable to make any changes to the squad until January. I thought we were safe unless West Ham came calling.

“However, thank you Danny and Nicky for three glorious years, and faith in Clive Nates & the board to find a suitable successor.

“Up the Imps. Onwards and upwards.”

Ian Rollitt said: “Devastated that Danny and Nicky are going.

“They will go down in the history of the Imps. Got us out of those dark times. Good luck to them though.

“True gents and pleasing to read their open letter. I just hope we continue on an upward curve.”

Scott Wells said: “Best wishes to them both.

Obviously gutted like the rest of the fans will be, but the last three years have been unbelievable.

“Me and my dad remember sitting on cold Tuesday nights playing against all sorts of not worth mentioning teams in front of 1,500 fans.

“Now our average attendance is amazing and the fan base is right behind the city again and we have them two to thank. So thank you and all the best.”

Dani Davies said: “Gutted to see them go. It was inevitable at some point though with what they’ve achieved.

“Thank you for what you’ve done for football and our city.”

The Cowley brothers move to West Yorkshire comes just a week after Danny Cowley ruled out the move to the Terriers, insisting it wasn’t the right time.

Gaz Lockwood said: “Not the right club. Wrong decision.”

Lewis Burton said: “To go from a club high up in League One to a team struggling in the Championship. It’s mad.”

Stuart Taylor said: “Wrong move, knew we wouldn’t keep them but Huddersfield, really. They will be League One next season.”

Tony Ruby said: “Potentially this move is career suicide. Get an interim manager in at the Bank because if Cowley has played 20 games and won three, drawn six and lost 11 he’ll be out the door on a cosy payoff.”
